Welcome to HCID Training UK

We provide training and education on assessment of patients with suspected high consequence infectious disease, developed by clinicians in the UK airborne & contact HCID networks and the Health and Safety Executive.

HCID Assessment PPE Course

Our flagship multi-disciplinary simulation course on assessment of high-consequence infectious disease for NHS healthcare workers

Train the Trainer Course

A 2-day course for educators including nursing and medical staff who wish to establish a HCID assessment PPE training program in a local setting.

HCID Education & Resources

Videos, posters and interactive online learning on recognition, assessment and care for HCID patients, plus links to UK clinical guidelines.

About Ultraviolet Simulation

We specialise in using ultraviolet dyes to simulate pathogen transmission by contact and airborne routes. Our course builds on several years of work developing the HCID Assessment PPE Ensemble using VIOLET, an ultraviolet contamination model. Learn about the evidence base informing the course

“It was a really useful experience working through in a logical manner with a buddy. I think within our team there are lessons we can build on our own processes”

ID Consultant, Leeds

ID Nurse, Manchester

“The online learning was informative and the simulation and practice was very worthwhile. All the resources were excellent”

Partners

Courses are developed and run by members of the airborne and contact UK HCID networks and Health and Safety Executive. More information below.

UK HCID Network

In the UK, there are airborne and contact HCID networks commissioned to provide treatment for patients with confirmed HCID in England and Wales, undertake research and contribute to policy and clinical guideline development. There are several designated NHS HCID Treatment Centres across England which together provide adult and paediatric services across England and Wales.

Health & Safety Executive

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is a UK government agency responsible for the encouragement, regulation and enforcement of workplace health, safety and welfare, and for research into occupational risks in Great Britain. The HSE have several roles in HCID including inspection of units and contribution towards policy and guideline development.
